Recent research from humanitarian responses shows that on average 40% of women are not using the latrines provided.
This may be a startling figure — but it’s supported by research, in-country observations and workshops alike. And while it highlights a real issue with latrines, the problem isn’t limited to sanitation. It extends to other WASH facilities as well, especially bathing cubicles and water points.
If latrines and other WASH facilities aren’t used then money, time, and resources are wasted and we are failing in our responsibility to the communitites we work with.
